Happy Halloween!

The Village of Burton will hold Trick or Treat on Saturday, October 31st from 5:30 to 7PM. If you will be handing out candy, please make sure to turn your porch light on. We ask that you ensure 6-foot social distancing while distributing treats and recommend the use of face coverings. As recommended by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), social distancing can be accomplished by placing treats on porch steps or a table in the driveway with a sign asking children to take only one. ODH recommends using creative ways to distribute treats, such as a candy “slide” made of PVC pipe, or hanging treats from a wall or fence. ODH suggests setting up hand-sanitizing stations if children select their own treats from a bowl/common container.


Goodwin Ave Project Update: 

Concrete curbing will be installed beginning next week on Monday, September 21, 2020. This will not allow you to access your driveway for a couple days. Residents are permitted to park on Hickox Street or nearby parking lots. You may park on Goodwin Avenue during the evening but we ask you have your car moved by 7:00AM the following morning. This process will last a few days and residents may access their drive after gravel has been installed at the apron on Wednesday or Thursday next week.

Garage Sale procedures for the Village of Burton:

Practice social distancing by doing the following:

  1. Place posters encouraging social distancing for customers to see upon arrival and while shopping.
  2. Set up tables and chairs within 6 feet apart.
  3. Use heavy-duty tape to form a flow for customers to follow throughout the sale.
  4. Ask customers to stand in a line, while spread apart, during a high traffic times.

Clean all tables and chairs several times throughout the day.

  1. Make sure all merchandise is washed and dried and/or wiped down with a disinfectant product before placing on a table or chair for sale.
  2. Wipe down all tables and chairs using disinfectant at the end of the day or in the morning before the next day of the sale starts.
  • Wear masks and disposable gloves at all times during the sale.
  • Have hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol on tables and other places for customers to use.

Exciting news, Village Residents! The Village of Burton now offers eBill and Bank Drafts. If you would like to sign up for eBill and/or Bank Drafts, the form is on the Water and Sewer page. Any questions call the Village of Burton office.

Our Burton Utility Department will be marking utility lines on lawns and streets Monday through Friday during normal business hours. If you have any questions or concerns please call the Village Office.


Please note:  The Board of Public Affairs recently updated the Rules and Regulations to state that any water and sewer bill not paid by the due date (a delinquent account) AND with a balance of $300 or greater will have services shut off. Payment plans are available to anyone who is having trouble paying their water/sewer bill. If you are making regularly scheduled payments on a payment plan, your account is not delinquent.


 

The Village of Burton has teamed up with Waste Management to offer Burton Village residents a Single Hauler Trash Program that became effective April 1, 2019. All residents will automatically be enrolled in the standard service level of a 96-gallon trash cart and a 64-gallon recycle cart at a rate of $17.81 per month. To choose a different service level, be sure to contact the Village Office at 440-834-4474. A senior rate is available. Also available is "low volume bag service." Recycling will take place every two weeks. Burton Village Residents and Contractors Working Within the Village

Please be aware that no person, firm or corporation having cause to perform work necessitating the involvement of a portion of the sidewalks, roadways, water systems, and/or sewer systems of the Village shall do so without applying for a Mayor's Permit through the Village Office. This includes having work done on your property that may impact the water/sewer lines that are there. This application will include detailing the nature of the work contemplated, the method of work, the remedial work planned, the starting date and the anticipated completion date. Please call or stop by the Village Office before any work has begun to avoid penalties.

“A Mayor’s Permit shall be obtained before any person is permitted to plow snow within the Village. Said permit shall require a fee of five dollars ($5.00). Said permit shall be valid from October 1 through April 30, and shall be effective for one season only.”

Burton Village Emergency Notification System (not the same as Geauga Alerts!)

Alert SignBurton Village’s new emergency notification system, Burton Alert, enables you to receive, at no extra charge*, informational messages from the Village in the event of an emergency.  The information sent through Burton Alert is intended to help keep you informed should the Village experience a significant event such as a water main break, boil alert, public health emergency, weather emergency, etc.  Messages may cover such subjects as safety alerts and directions on what to do; the location of a shelter; evacuation orders; debris removal information; and the Village’s response to an emergency.  You can receive either a phone call or text message to a designated number, AND an email.

You can apply on-line by downloading the Burton Alert Sign Up Form, complete it, and press the "Submit" button on the form.
